Towards an integrating experience of Mallorca

It is clear an instrumental sense of utility and foresight is part of being human. We look for predictable experiences with a sense of closure. Our prodigious development of skills related to strategy, verification and objectivity is hardly surprising. We are adept at penetrating reality through numbers, logic and analysis. We have become specialized in making generalizations and abstractions. Concepts are our guides.
When I show Mallorca to other people in my guided tours, I realize that everything I have described above is not as solid is it would generally seem. I would go as far as to say that certain sides of visitors’ characters try to express themselves almost involuntarily. This ambiguity is not unfamiliar to me. I am convinced that in the same way as human beings seek control and power they also long for participation and mystery. However in Western societies this part of the story has not been sufficiently understood or appreciated and as a consequence, people seem to live in hiding from themselves.
I understand that in human beings there is a longing for connection with something greater. We seem to trust in the existence of unknown forces with the power of regeneration. This cannot be satisfied by putting some of our faculties on hold. Images and projections also bind us to the world. The influence of evocation is not alien to us. Nor can we escape the weight of affect, of the subjective, of the singular. Sometimes we are guided by mere identification and imitation.
It is often tempting to glorify anything that has been forgotten, rejected or scarcely accepted. This is not my case. I am interested in fostering a culture that understands that different ways of experiencing reality hold as many merits and advantages as they do deficiencies, where any pathway taken to an extreme and isolated from the rest could end in unappealing excess. I stand for a culture that cultivates an integrating experience where the different sides of human beings can come together intentionally and consciously, in a way that is mutually enriching and transformative.
In my guided visits I show Mallorca by mobilizing and linking different human faculties. An integrating experience allows different qualities and levels of reality to be comprehended. It is from this starting point that I will lead you into the wealth of meanings that the island holds.
